Current Obsession: I Got a Boy by Girls’ Generation

This song’s been out for almost a month now, and I’m still listening the heck out of it. It doesn’t matter that it sounds like they mashed together five completely different songs or that these girls look like total hip hop posers. It’s a fun song! It’s a cool dance! It’s…a bunch of creepy orange wigs and trashy looking trench coats??? Yeahhh, let’s pretend that part of the video never happened :/

There are so many cool hats in the video! In one live performance I watched, I saw a blue cap with a big yellow bow (yay, bows!) next to the bill. Here are some of the hat variations and accessories that I thought the girls rocked.

Work in Progress: mittens

I’ve been working on this crochet project off and on since last week with the same yarn I used for my pom pom headband.
thumbs up for mittens
I started out by following a free pattern I found via Pinterest, but soon realized that they were not going to be the right size/shape. Who needs patterns anyway? I kept crocheting and trying the mitten on every few minutes to test the fit and make adjustments.

unfinished mitten, easy crochetI’m waiting to make the cuff until I finish the second mitten. A few rows of double crochet stitch should get the job done. I’ll share more details on the construction after I finish both mittens!

A Handmade Christmas

I wish I could make gifts for everyone on my list, but Christmas always sneaks up on me. Here are a few handmade gifts I gave to friends and family this Christmas.

Embroidered Luggage Tags

The tag on the left is crocheted and embroidered using medium weight yarn. I used a chain stitch for her initial and slip stitches around the edge.

The tag on the right is an iron-on transfer from Diana Rupp’s book Embroider Everything Workshop. I used backstitching to embroider the front design and an address on the back.

I used the same yarn as the crocheted luggage tag above. This was worked in four pieces then sewn together. I’m not sure the name of the stitch I used, but it’s very similar to the half double crochet stitch.

Embroidered Animals

I bought these designs from TeenyTinyhappyThings on Etsy. They measure approximately 5.5″ tall and 4″ wide.
